Parden my French. Why is it that we women have to rely on men so much in life?
At recent job interviews I was saddeningly unsurprised at the lack of women in each office, as I listened to male bosses inform me that I was entering a 'competitive world'. By my third interview, when some jerk brought up the fact that I had listed 'dancing' in my hobbies and interests, and asked me to elaborate, I went off on a tangent describing my life as an exotic dancer. Now, whether that is true or not is for you and him to decide, but I couldn't help but want to ask, as politely as possible, "Who do I have to screw to get ahead in here?"
Now I'm pissed off on a Friday night with nothing but a half bottle of Pinot Grigio to numb the pain. If I didn't rely on men for my entertainment so much I'm sure I'd be just fine. Thing is, I see relationships as hobbies, and at the moment I would quite like to have a collection, rather than just one.
An ex and I were discussing the 'collection' phenomenon the other day, and agreed that one person should be entitled to have relationships with three others simultaneously. You need one person to provide you with physical satisfaction, another for the mental stimulation and companionship, and a third to give you the grief and aggro that makes you feel that your time is being spent wisely. It's obviously a stupid supposition to think that all three facets can be found in one human being these days. It just doesn't happen.
Which leads me to ask - which need is my current boyfriend fulfilling? I'm not getting nearly enough sex, we don't really connect on an emotional level, and whilst we are intellectually matched, he bores the hell out of me. I suppose I just like him cos he looks good and he makes my female friends jealous. A fine foundation for a lasting relationship!!

For once. Not that the phone hasn't been ringing off the hook all day and people haven't been coming and going. Not that at all. It's been mental. But I'm grabbing a spare 5 minutes for a bit of R & R. I think some scallywag student has just egged the office above mine - how nice!
Anyway, I'm off out for a meal tonight - another opportunity to sink a bottle of wine........

With Valentine's day rearing it's rose-scented, fluffy pink head once again, are you quaking in your boots or waiting for Thursday with eager anticipation? Have you planned a romantic meal, a weekend away, an evening confined to the bedroom in sexy lingerie, a well-thought-out phrase in a card to your secret crush? Or are you doing as I am, by encouraging my partner to bugger off so I can have a 'singles night' with friends??
